Project Overview
Mentor Buddies is a design career mentorship program powered by Design Buddies. The founder of the company, Grace Ling, came to me looking for help with an issue they had with the Mentor Buddies app. From their analytics, they were seeing a huge drop off in engagement during the onboarding process. During this project, it was my goal to solve some of those issues and create a layout that kept users engaged with the mobile app.

Process

I began by analyzing app analytics, identifying the screen with the highest user drop-off rate. The second screen, indicated by the red arrow, had a significant 80% drop-off. One issue was the overwhelming number of steps on a single screen. User feedback revealed early discouragement, with the perceived effort exceeding the app's visible value. Due to its early position in onboarding, users lacked a clear understanding of what they were signing up for.

I sketched out potential solutions for the sign-up problems and found a promising design. My goal was to divide the entry fields while simultaneously informing users about the service and encouraging them to complete the onboarding process. The screenshot below shows my rough wireframe, combining a rotating carousel with information about the app and split text entry boxes.
